VISTA - Vision Supported Truck docking Assistant

VISTA: für einen effizienten und schadenfreien Transport in Logistikzentren

The logistics sector is constantly looking for innovations that can help improve the service level and profitability of the sector. These innovations have led to reduced fuel consumption and emissions in recent decades, among other things. Meanwhile, experiments are being carried out on a large scale with autonomous lorries. Many of these innovations have in common that additional technology in the vehicle takes over the role of the driver. The aforementioned pilots have something similar: the often expensive and complex technology can actually only be used in new vehicles. This project is looking for an intermediate form that brings advantages of automation into the existing fleet, without the technological costs being so high that automation never becomes profitable. With the use of VISTA technology, the technological changes to the truck are minimal and the driver continues to perform the actions himself. Parking (‘docking’) of trucks becomes easier and damage-free. The ultimate aim of the project is to use this technology to create a breakthrough in the logistics process on distribution sites and in ports; more efficient processes, relaxed task performance of drivers and less damage. A potential side-effect is that less experienced younger drivers can be used more easily, where there is now a large shortage of drivers with experience. The ultimate costs of large-scale introduction of VISTA in the existing fleet will be small, partly due to the very limited additional hardware costs. This means that the results can be used quickly. A scan of the business shows that similar products are not yet available on TRL> 7. An extensive business case analysis will show where the revenues will come down. Based on this, various PMC (Product Market Combinations) are drawn up.
