Power to Flex

Power to Flex; flexible Energieversorgung durch Energiespeicherung

Sun and wind sometimes generate too much and sometimes too little electricity. This makes it difficult to reconcile supply and demand. Power to Flex, a cooperation project involving companies, knowledge institutes and public authorities from the north of the Netherlands and northwest Germany, aims to provide solutions and realises innovative pilot projects for the storage of sustainably generated energy.

Storing energy
Energy storage takes the form of hydrogen gas, heat, electricity and biogas, both on a small (individual households) and medium scale (businesses, apartment blocks and mobility).

What’s the point?
The project partners involved are primarily from medium and small enterprises. They see opportunities for small-scale applications for storing energy close to the source. This will not only create new products, but also new jobs.

Development of experimental plants.
– Individual households: a small-scale plant that stores hydrogen, heat and electricity for individual households and small businesses.
– Mobility: a small hydrogen filling station to balance the difference in electricity supply and demand.
– Businesses/residential blocks: a medium-sized test facility as energy storage for residential blocks and medium-sized businesses.

The project was started in November 2016. The innovative pilot projects will be demonstrated in early 2019.
