Programme Area
The development area of the INTERREG IV A Programme “Germany – Netherlands 2007-2013“ stretches from the North Sea coast to the Lower Rhine. Along the border, the distance totals approximately 460 km. The area is 46,737 km² in size and over 12 million people live there.
The programme area covers parts of the German states of Lower Saxony and North Rhine Westphalia and parts of the Dutch provinces of Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Flevoland, Overijssel, Gelderland, Noord-Brabant and Limburg.
The programme is basically targeted at areas directly on the German-Dutch border. But in certain cases adjoining areas, such as for instance the towns of Münster and Duisburg or the northern part of the province of Drenthe, may receive funding. The share is however restricted to a maximum of 20% of the programme’s budget (see map of the programme area).
