Majeure projects
A new feature of the INTERREG IV A programme Deutschland – Nederland are the so-called “majeure projects”. Cross-bordering projects whose activities and results are not limited to one region, but influence the entire programme area between the North Sea coast and the Lower Rhine, obtain this title. Mainly projects that aim at the development of sustainable technologies and innovations, on the basis of applied science, fall into this category “majeur”.
Because majeure projects should also cross the borders of the programme area, additional, special demands are put forward:
- Majeure projects should extend to a large part of the programme area, should be long term, are sustainable, and should experience much engagement from both sides of the border.
- The spatial extensiveness and the high quality of the majeure projects is generally also reflected in the volume of the total costs, where a clear higher financial participation of the private sector is expected.
Majeure projects should be developed in close cooperation with knowledge institutes and the private sector. Ms Ingrid Klinge-van Rooij of the Joint INTERREG Secretariat is responsible for the coordination and development of these projects. Requests and ideas for possible majeure projects can either be discussed with her or with the regional programme managements.
The decisions on majeure projects are taken by the members of the Monitoring Committee of the INTERREG IV A programme Deutschland – Nederland.
